The passion flower, native to the southeastern United States, is currently the herb of choice for treating sleeplessness and insomnia. Comparable to valerian root, passion flower has a calming effect on the nervous system and is also non-addictive.

Passion flower acts as a tranquilizer to relieve anxiety and nervousness generally caused by emotional strain. Due to the presence of alkaloids and flavonoids, passion flower helps induce sleep and relaxation to promote a good night's rest.

Passion flower may also be used to relieve muscle spasms related to digestion and menstrual cramping, as well as relieve pain and migraines.

Passion flower has been known to kill bacteria making it a good choice for treating eye problems such as inflammation and infection.
