Something's Happening Here

by Dr. Rita Louise

As you begin reading this article, take a moment and look around at what is going on in your life, the things that are happening day to day. The personal crises and trauma we had been experiencing a couple of years ago have finally ceased. Things aren't breaking down left and right. They aren't blowing up around us and life isn't majorly changing direction every other moment. With life falling apart around us we were forced to live in the moment because we didn't know what we would be experiencing next...and thinking about it would have made us crazy.

In relationship to that point in time, our lives seem rather calm, quiet and sedate. In the apparent tranquility of our day to day lives, something just doesn't seem right. With all of the excitement of constant change going on around us it was easy to identify the problem. Now we are all having a hard time putting our finger on what is going on or why we are feeling the way we do.

I'm sure many of you are experiencing life as if you are lying on a beach with water flowing up and over your head. With each wave, you hope you can hold your breath long enough to make it through until the next wave flows up over your head. At the same, time you may be thinking to yourself "Oh, to only be young and carefree again."

I have often wondered if everyone as they get older goes through a phase like this. As I talk to friends, family and clients, regardless of their age, they are all feeling the same...lost, confused, tired and as if they are struggling to stay afloat.

What's going on? I will say now as I have said in the past when I have talked about the energy vibration on the planet, it IS not you. Yes, we are having these experiences. The feelings of confusion or quiet despair are quite real. But these feeling are in response to something bigger, deeper. It is not that there is something happening directly to us, but around us. How we experience this energy is different for each of us and is based upon who we are, where we have come from and the particulars going on in our lives.

As I said earlier, when we check into our personal lives, everything seems OK. We each have our ups and downs. When we try to evaluate what is going on and look for a cause of our feelings, we are unable to find anything specific. If only we could say "Ahhhhh... yes, this is it".

I believe to find the answer to this dilemma, we have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. There has been so much going on in recent days it is hard to keep track of all that has transpired. In case you aren't sure what I am talking about, here are a few examples and yes, these are just a few examples of what has been going on.

The economy, in the US is failing. We are constantly being told that jobs are scarce, money is tight and our economic recovery is slow. Many of us are pisses off because the government has put us into this position when they bailed out the banks and big corporations. I think the part that irritates us the most about the bailout is the fact that after spending trillions of dollars to help stimulate the economy, we are personally no better off. In fact, we as a nation are worse off now because we have created a debt monster.

The war in the Middle East is still going on. We were told in the last election that the troops were going to be brought home. That was a lie. On top of that, the media ignores what is going on, which adds to our frustration and indignation.

The dreaded healthcare reform has passed. In my dealings with people, many wanted health care to be addressed, but are shocked at the kinds of changes the government is going to impose. And yes, impose is the correct word. What I find as the saddest part of this end run initiative is that even though we voiced our opinion it went unheard.

Let's see, what else. There is the oil leak in the gulf. Anyone with a lentil for a brain can recognize the overwhelming environmental impact this little boo-boo may have. The extent of damage this mishap has caused no one really knows. Individuals as well as the media have been banned from taking pictures or filming the devastation in the area. Like the war in the Middle East, the main stream media all but ignores it. Deep in our hearts we know what is going on in the gulf is really bad and only getting worse.

Hmmmmmm.... What else. There was swine flu and avian flu. Quick get the vaccine or you will die. Lots of hype, lots of fear, then nothing. Let's not forget about the terrorist threat and our borders? That's a joke. What I want to know is what ever happened to Global Warming. Are we getting hot or cold? I'm confused. Regardless of the temperature, that one still isn't resolved in the minds and hearts of most Americans.

Then to top the whole thing off, there is 2012. If, as many fear mongers have described, we are going to blow ourselves up or be struck by an asteroid, well then why bother do anything? Many of us are just trying to ride out the storm, waiting for that day to come and go. If we only knew what was going to happen. If I could only find a reliable crystal ball to look into I know my life would be simpler.

Bottom line... We are brought up to believe that we are in control of our lives and the masters of our destinies. I think that belief, which has spurred us on to greatness has been slowly and quietly whittled away. Instead of feeling powerful and whole, we feel like cogs in the machine. Then when we think about extraditing ourselves from it, we realize we are trapped deep within it.

This leads us to having a deep sense of sadness, futility and fear. It runs as an undercurrent in our lives. Even though many of the individual problems on the planet aren't affecting us directly, they are affecting us indirectly. Then, as more and more happens, it adds to our already full coffers of unresolved emotions. Time has not giving us a chance to heal our wounds. Instead, we are constantly being assaulted with more and more to deal with, issues and problems of which we have little control and no say in the outcome.

Not only are we being affected by the events, trials and trauma of what is going on, we are also being affected by everyone else's energetic responses to this issues. It has become harder and harder for each of us to hold our space and our energy.

I know for myself, on the surface, I am not holding on to negative thoughts. I don't worry that the world will end or something awful thing will happen to me. But issues such as the ones I have just discussed seem to be sitting just below the surface of my conscious mind. I can try to tell myself that they are not having an impact on me, but then who would be in denial? I find myself living with a sense of ongoing discomfort. Meditation is hard and focus has all but gone out the window. I feel tired, drained, overwhelmed and just want to get off the ride. Internally I wonder is it just me? But I know... it is all of us.

Even as I finish writing the piece, when I check in on my internal environment, I feel good. I am happy. At the same time, however, I'm sure everyone who has just blessed me by reading this article can sense my frustration and concern.
